On April 21, 2025, an agreement was signed in Washington between the World Bank and the Ministry of Finance of Kyrgyzstan on the provision of a preferential interest-free loan in the amount of $120 million. In accordance with the agreement, $60 million will be provided to the State Development Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic to finance the project “Development of sustainable financial markets for micro, small and medium enterprises”.
The goal of the project is affordable “green” loans for small and medium-sized businesses. Now small businesses will be able to receive a loan for “green” projects at rates below market rates.
The stable operation of small and medium-sized enterprises contributes to the economic growth of Kyrgyzstan. They also create jobs, improve the well-being of the population and the environmental situation. In the context of climate change, supporting such enterprises in the transition to “green” technologies is becoming an important priority for the country.
In general, cheap loans for “green” initiatives from the State Development Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic for micro, small and medium enterprises will help develop the sustainable financing market, increase business stability, improve the environmental situation and have a positive impact on the country’s economy. The State Development Bank continues to support business, sustainable growth and innovation, strengthening its role in the development of the Kyrgyz economy and the achievement of global sustainable development goals.
