On September 12, 2026, in honor of the Independence Day of the Kyrgyz Republic, a small hydroelectric power plant (SHPP) was opened on the Tuyuk River in the Issyk-Ata district of the Chui region. It was built with financial support from the State Development Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The opening of the SHPP was among a number of new production facilities launched across the country on that day by President Sadyr Japarov as part of a nationwide initiative to launch new production facilities.
The project was implemented with financial support from the State Development Bank as part of the country’s priority areas for regional development, sustainable infrastructure, and energy potential. The project cost is 516.1 million soms.
The plant’s installed capacity is 7.5 MW, with an annual electricity generation of 29.16 million kWh, enough to power up to 15,000 people and contribute to improving the region’s energy resilience.
The project will create seven new jobs, develop related industries such as construction, transportation, and services, and increase tax revenues to the state budget. Annual payments are expected to exceed 15 million soms, with further growth expected.
The use of a renewable energy source will help reduce CO₂ emissions and decrease dependence on traditional hydrocarbon energy sources.
“Supporting renewable energy projects is one of the key activities of the State Development Bank. The new small hydroelectric power plant simultaneously achieves several objectives: it increases generating capacity, strengthens the region’s energy supply, creates jobs, and generates additional tax revenues. It is symbolic that the facility was launched on Independence Day of the Kyrgyz Republic,” noted Emil Takyrbashev, Chairman of the Board of the State Development Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic.
