On January 26, 2026, the State Development Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic signed an agreement to finance the construction of the Kulanak hydroelectric power station in the Naryn region.
The Kulanak hydroelectric power station is located in the village of Kulanak on the Naryn River. Its installed capacity will be 100 MW, with an annual output of 435 million kWh, which will reduce the country’s energy deficit by 11%.
The project will:
- Strengthen the Kyrgyz Republic’s position in the regional electricity market;
- Reduce the dependence of the energy sector and the national economy on fluctuations in the fuel market;
- Increase local and national budget revenues;
- Create up to 100 new permanent jobs in the region;
- Increase the area of irrigated land in the Kulanak Valley.
