From May 12 to 15, 2025, the State Development Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic (the Bank) received the mission of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) on an official visit. The visit was devoted to discussing the potential participation of the AIIB in the International Development Association project “Development of Sustainable Financial Markets for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises” (the project), within the framework of which USD 120 million is allocated to the Kyrgyz Republic. The project is aimed at expanding MSME access to financial resources and promoting sustainable green financial solutions.
During the negotiations, the parties discussed in detail the formats of the AIIB’s participation in the project, including co-financing mechanisms, priority areas of support and terms of interaction. Particular attention was paid to issues of sustainable development and green financing and increasing the capacity of national financial and credit organizations. The AIIB is expected to co-finance the project in the amount of USD 50 million.
The Bank reaffirmed its commitment to the mission of attracting international financing to key sectors of the economy and emphasized the strategic importance of supporting MSMEs to create jobs, increase entrepreneurial activity and sustainable growth.
The visit also discussed the prospects for a long-term partnership between the Bank and AIIB in the field of infrastructure and sustainable financing. Both parties expressed interest in developing cooperation and implementing joint initiatives that are important for the economic future of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The parties expressed mutual interest in further developing partnerships and achieving specific results within the framework of the discussed projects. The visit of the AIIB mission was an important step towards strengthening cooperation and developing effective partnerships for the sustainable development of the country.
